Polyphasic sleep!
I heard of this a year ago and now its appeared again in a book I'm reading.
Imagine living life with 2 hours sleep a day and not being tired? That would give me an extra 3 months a year.
Our essential 8 hourse sleep routine is a myth. Invented in the industrial revolution to suit the 9-5 man.
Different cultures through-out history have had different sleeping patterns. Man can survive on 20 minute naps every 4 hours, it's been proven. The long term side effects are unknown however.... Living on siesta's alone.
The transition from sleeping at night to napping now and then is apparently living hell until your brain readjusts itself but an extra 6 hours in the day would reap so many benifits!
If you don't believe then just google Uberman sleep. For now I need to do more research.
I myself have tried polyphasic sleep - I have attempted Uberman, Everyman-nap patterns (2, 3, and 4), and other suggested sleeping patterns. Believe me, it is next to impossible to stick with these sleeping patterns for a prolonged period of time. I have done some research on the topic, weighing the pros and cons and listening to both sides of the argument; ultimately, I believe it is simply too difficult to put into practice in modern society. Here is a link that perhaps will elucidate some findings regarding polyphasic sleep: http://www.supermemo.com/articles/polyphasic.htm. Hopefully the article sheds some light on the issue.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve, I find that article quite bias do, it's very fast to bash the idea or maybe I'm just hoping its possible. I have been trying to sleep 6 hour cores at night with a 20 minute nap (siesta) after dinner. I'm finding it difficult to nap do as it is'nt something I'm used to doing.
ReplyDeleteI have read some blogs of people who have claimed to have successfully achieved some form of uberman or everyman sleep successfully.
